So it was a normal day in the life of a missionary (Wednesday) when half way through our studies we get HAMMERED by texts and we start gazing through them with awe as we discover that we need to pack up some stuff to help us survive for at least a week and store all of our valuables away and that we are going to have a mission wide conference call with President Richardson in just a few hours. So we pack up and shutter up our house and keep following all of the texts that are now streaming in left and right. So we are all ready to evacuate, then we get on the conference call and our zone and two others are told to evacuate from our houses and go to stay in chapels further inland and that we only have until nightfall to get there because the hurricane is scheduled to hit on Thursday. So we go and work and do whatever until that night when we all take our cars and our bikes and go hunker down in the Coconut Creek Chapel, twenty minutes inland from us. We stayed with ten other missionaries (all elders) and just hung out. We still studied and all that stuff and got super bored. We slept there two nights before being allowed to go back to work. Now I am back in my area working as usual. The hurricane decided to move further north from where we are and hit Orlando instead. A blessing for us... not so much for Orlando. It ended up not hitting anything in our mission so we are just back to doing missionary work like usual. We aren't doing much storm related service or anything because it is outside of our mission and the other priesthood brethren (the ones who actually live here) are going to be covering that. All is well and everyone is totally fine here. Power never went out. We hardly even saw any rain or wind. It was kind of like an extended P-day where we just played makeshift ping pong and stuff.
So yeah... all is well and we are all alive. The storm and evacuating totally screwed up our week missionary wise... which kind of sucked... but all is back to normal now.
Yes, it is Columbus Day and the libraries are closed, so there are a bunch of us here at the chapel. We've had to make due with the chapel computer, so we are all switching off. We don't have much time though so I will talk to you next week!
